Copyright is a property right. Under the Federal Copyright Act of 1976 (effective January 1, 1978 and amended when the USA joined the Berne Convention in 1989), photographs are protected by copyright from the moment of creation.

We utilize digital watermarks embedded in our photos to prevent illegal copying that are imperceptible during normal use but readable by computers and software. A digital watermark is a special code embedded in an image. Our special software embeds these "imperceptible" messages by making subtle changes to the data of the original digital content. These digital watermarks can then be "read" to communicate copyright information and track image use, thereby notifying us of unlicensed image use and copyright violation.
